CRANIUM, Professional Edition v4.2 - Property Estimation Software

Version 4.2 is an older version of Cranium. It is the last minor update for major version 4. We recommend you use the newest version of the Professional Edition of Cranium (click here). If you are certain you would like to install version 4.2, then follow the instructions below.

Version 4.2 of the Professional Edition of Cranium's contains new graphing, reporting, and bookmarking capabilities as well as numerous productivity improvements. View the sections below for listings of new capabilities and bug fixes.

Upgrade Procedure:

  • Minor Upgrade: If you are running Cranium 4.0 or 4.1 you can perform a minor upgrade version 4.2. You will only need to download and install the new version. (You should also follow this procedure if you want to reinstall version 4.2.) Click here for instructions.

Version 4.1, October 2020
New Capability: Function logging can now be turned on to help us with debugging problems

To assist us in quickly correcting difficult to diagnose bugs, Cranium now includes a function logging capability. These log files will enable us to rapidly identify the particular functions which are causing problems.

Bug Fix: The references and comments of JSON entity identifiers are now correctly exported

The references and comments of entity identifiers are now correctly exported. (See JSON Exporting for details.)

New Capability: Additional options for reporting technique evaluations

Evaluating techniques is an essential task in the estimation of physical properties. Typically we record technique evaluation results in a Report document. Additional options are now available for generating reports from technique evaluations.

New Capability: Quick temperature and pressure limits for estimations

To estimate temperature and presssure dependent physical properties, you must first enter one or more temperatures or pressures. Cranium and Synapse provide dialogs that enable you to easily enter a series of temperatures and pressures. These dialogs now enable you to quickly select common temperature limits (melting point, boiling point, critical temperature) and pressure limits (triple point pressure, critical pressure).

Version 4.0, July 2020
Change: XY Data Sets and Graphs are now combined into one Chapter

XY graph data sets and graphs are combined into a new chapter within the new Graph Document. See the documentation to understand how to transfer data from the old xy graph documents into the new xy graph entity.

Change: Triangular Data Sets and Graphs are combined into a Graph Document Chapter

Triangular graph data sets and graphs were combined into a new chapter within the new Graph Document. See the documentation to understand how to transfer data from the old triangular graph documents into the new triangular graph entity.

New Capability: Report Pages Edit dialog now provides more editing functions

The Report Pages Edit Dialog now provides more editing capabilities.

New Capability: MKS JSON added as a knowledge base export format

The MKS JSON File Format was added as a new knowledge base export option. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a powerful, human-readable data-interchange format.

New Capability: Menu option now available to allow/disallow duplicate bookmarks

An option has been added to the Bookmarks menu to allow or disallow duplicate bookmarks. See documenation for Using Bookmarks for details on Cranium's and Synapse's bookmarking capabilities.

Bug Fix: Curve points can now be entered for phase equilibrium properties

Bug Fix: An error in units checking prevented the entry of curve values for mixture phase equilibrium properties. This error has been corrected.

Change: Export files updated and externally verified

The accuracy of export files written in third-party software formats has been verify by external reviewers.

See documenation for:

New Capability: Physical property values from additional file types can be imported

Physical property values from Aspen input files and DIPPR database files can now be imported into knowledge bases.

See documenation for:

New Capability: Recently cited references are now easily accessible

Recently cited references can now be easily accessed from a dropdown menu attached to each reference control. This should simplify the task of adding a reference to each datum which is highly recommended.
